About The Broke Desi Kitchen
Good Desi food. Without breaking the bank.
Hungry? Short on money? Don’t feel like spending an hour in the kitchen?
Yeah. We’ve been there.
The Broke Desi Kitchen is built for Indian students and young people figuring out how to feed themselves while living away from home.
Hostel. PG. Rented room. Shared apartment. First job. Tiny kitchen. Basic ingredients. Questionable cooking skills.
We’ve got you.
Our goal is simple:
Make it easy. Make it affordable. Make it worth eating.
The idea behind The Broke Desi Kitchen is straightforward: you shouldn’t need a big budget, a fancy kitchen, or chef-level skills to eat good food.
Who is this for?
This is for the person who looks inside the fridge and thinks:
“I have eggs, rice and an onion. Now what?”
It’s for the student who has ₹80 left until the weekend.
It’s for the person coming home after a long college day who wants dinner now, not an elaborate cooking project.
It’s for the person who is tired of eating instant noodles but doesn’t want to spend ₹500 ordering food.
And it’s for anyone who wants to cook for one hungry person instead of a family of six.
Our entire concept starts with that reality.
What We Make
We believe everyday food should be four things:
⚡ FAST
Most of our recipes aim for 10–20 minutes.
Because when you’re hungry, “I’ll start cooking at 8” isn’t exactly a meal plan.
₹ BROKE-FRIENDLY
Affordable doesn’t mean eating badly.
It means getting maximum satisfaction for your money.
₹30 breakfast.
₹50 dinner.
₹100 high-protein meal.
Real food. Real budgets.
🥚 NUTRITIOUS(ISH)
We’re not trying to turn your kitchen into a fitness lab.
But food should actually help you feel good.
So we think about protein, vegetables, fibre, carbohydrates, healthy fats and overall balance—without making eating complicated.
👤 FOR ONE
This might be our favourite part.
Most recipes assume you’re feeding four, six, or an entire extended family.
We start with one hungry person.
You.
That means sensible quantities, practical ingredients and recipes that don’t leave you with three weeks’ worth of leftovers.
More Than Recipes
The Broke Desi Kitchen isn’t just about recipes.
We’re here to help with the whole problem of feeding yourself.
🍳 The Broke Meal
Cheap, satisfying meals when the bank balance isn’t cooperating.
⏱️ 15-Minute Desi
Hungry now? Eat soon.
💪 Protein Without the Price Tag
How can an ordinary student get enough protein without spending a fortune?
🎓 Student Survival
Exam tomorrow? Too tired to cook? Zero energy?
We’ve got something for that.
🛒 Broke Desi Grocery
Because knowing what to buy—and what not to waste—is half the battle.
These are the five content pillars that shape what we create.
The ₹100 • 15 MINUTES • 1 PERSON Rule
You’ll see this idea a lot around here.
₹100 • 15 MINUTES • 1 PERSON
It’s our signature format because it tells you almost everything you need to know immediately:
How much?
How long?
How much food?
Why should I care?
The numbers can change.
The idea doesn’t.
We’re Not Trying to Be Chefs
And that’s intentional.
We’re not here to teach you complicated restaurant recipes.
We’re not a luxury food channel.
We’re not trying to turn every dinner into a five-hour cooking experiment.
We’re here for real food, real kitchens and real life.
Because sometimes dinner is a perfectly cooked meal.
And sometimes it’s eggs, rice and whatever survived the back of the fridge.
Both count.
The important thing is that you’re eating something good without making life unnecessarily complicated.
Food First. Always.
We’re serious about food.
But we’re not taking ourselves too seriously.
There might be a little self-aware humour along the way:
“Salary hasn’t arrived. Hunger has.”
“₹43 in the account. Dinner sorted.”
“Your Maggi deserves some competition.”
But the joke is never the point.
The food is.
The Broke Desi Test
Before we make something, we ask one question:
“If I were an Indian student living alone, hungry tonight, short on money and short on time—would this genuinely help me?”
If the answer is YES, we make it.
If it’s MAYBE, we make the idea better.
If it’s NO, we don’t need it.
That’s the filter behind The Broke Desi Kitchen.
So, Welcome.
If you’re living on your own, learning to cook, trying to save money, or simply trying to figure out what the hell to make for dinner—
you’re in the right kitchen.
Grab whatever you’ve got.
Turn on the stove.
Let’s make something good.
